About
Our Snakes
The park is home to a variety of snakes common in Eastern and Southern Africa from the Black Mamba to the Black and Red spitting Cobras and the African Python. There are approximately 48 snakes you can view.
Other reptiles at the park include Monitor Lizards, Tortoises, Crocodiles, and a few species of birds that have been orphaned or injured and would not survive if they were returned to the wild. Meserani Snake Park is a great place to learn about some of Africa’s less notorious, but most efficient predators.
Egyptian Cobra
The Egyptian cobra, also called Ouraeus or Uraeus, binomial name Naja haje.
Gabon Viper
The Gaboon viper is a viper species found in the rainforests and savannas of sub-Saharan Africa. Like all vipers, it is venomous.
Black Spitting Cobra
The black-necked spitting cobra is a species of spitting cobra found mostly in sub-Saharan Africa.
Green Mamba
The eastern green mamba is a highly venomous snake species of the mamba genus Dendroaspis native to the coastal regions of southern East Africa.
Black Mamba
The black mamba is a species of highly venomous snake belonging to the family Elapidae. It is native to parts of sub-Saharan Africa. Mature specimens generally exceed 2m and commonly grow to 3m.
Medical Clinic
The Meserani Snake Park Clinic, a modest facility adjacent to the Meserani Snake Park, focuses on treating snake bites from diverse snake species in the savannah. Supported by the Snake Park’s earnings and donations from Pflaster für Tansania e.V., which oversees the clinic, it offers free treatment critical for rural communities. Snake bites continue to be a major danger for rural Tanzanians.
Antivenom, specific to the snake type, is essential for patient survival but is highly expensive. The financial and material aid from Pflaster für Tansania is therefore indispensable.
After your tour through the cultural museum, you will visit the Maasai Crafts Market, built by the Meserani Snake Park to empower Maasai women to run their own businesses. Browse 13 traditional Maasai huts, observe the women crafting vibrant, colorful jewelry, and dress up as a Maasai warrior with authentic blankets, shields, and spears. Choose from a variety of curios and jewelry to commemorate your experience at the Maasai Crafts Market.
Whether you are on an overland truck or just stopping by on your way to or from the Serengeti or Ngorongoro Crater, Meserani’s camp site is an oasis in the heart of Maasai Land Tanzania. You can just relax with a fully equipped camp site. Hot showers, clean wash rooms. Unwind and listen to the beautiful sounds of nature as there are over 60 species of birds that inhabit the park.
The bar has become legendary around the world. Hanging from the roof you will find all sorts of memorabilia, from t-shirts to bank notes. Every piece tells a story. Everybody is welcome at the snake park bar, and if you happen to drop by be sure to try out some of the species of shooters available.
